AMONG the events of Lord Hardinge's beneficent Viceroyalty destined to live in the memory of the people is His Excellency's visit on Sunday to Mr. Dadabhai Naoroji at his residence at Varsova. It is an act of graciousness on the part of the august representative of the sovereign unparalleled in the history of India. His Excellency has been quietly but surely altering in many ways the precedents and prescriptions of the prestige ridden bureaucracy. By that means His Excellency has been drawing the hearts of Indians nearer to the great British nation that is so unlike the bureaucracy which dominates the country. The Grand Old Man of India has been as uncompromising in his opposition to the bureaucratic spirit as he has been staunch in upholding India's permanent connection with Britain.
