Thumri dance to mark Safe Uttarakhand Day on Dec 19

Viraam Gurukul Society will celebrate Safe Uttarakhand Day on December 19 by organising a performance by thumri queen Girja Devi in Dehradun.
Founded by Rajnish Mishra, son of Padma Bhushan Rajan Sajan Mishra, Viraam Gurukul Society has been nurturing Indian Classical Music in Dehradun since its inception. Eminent sarod player Ustad Amaan Ali Khan, son of sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan, accompanied by legendary tabla player Kumar Bose, will also give a presentation.
Viraam Gurukul Society, in its four years of operation, has enthralled the audiences by organising performances of prominent artistes such as Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj, Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasiya and others.
Rajnish Mishra said the society also promoted upcoming artistes by giving them a platform and staging their performances.
The state government had launched a programme to create awareness among people that Uttarakhand is safe for tourism as a large number of pilgrims visits Char Dhams this year. The state is safe for tourists and pilgrims alike. The musical programme to spread the message of safe Uttarakhand was a novel idea. It is expected to draw attention of the people.
