TMC may field 40 candidates: Brar
Chandigarh, January 13
Releasing the second list of 10 candidates, All-India Trinamool Congress state president Jagmeet Singh Brar today said that the party might field candidates on 40 seats.
He also floated the idea of a ‘consensus candidate’ for the Amritsar Lok Sabha bypoll and said, “The TMC will be releasing another list of candidates shortly. We are also hopeful that Opposition parties will put up a consensus candidate against the NDA in Amritsar so it may be seen as a referendum on Modi’s note ban.”
He said the TMC would campaign on five core issues — rise of crime and drug menace; agrarian crisis; SYL water dispute; social justice; and unemployment and demonetisation.
Prominent candidates in the list include Gurkimat Sidhu, who resigned as general secretary of the Youth Congress, and AAP’s former office-bearers Tarandeep Sunny and Baljit Singh Talwandi-Rama. — TNS
