Chandigarh, September 11
The UT Department of the Engineering has floated the tender to hire a consultant for the flyover project at Tribune Chowk for the sixth time after the Ministry of the Road Transport and Highways rejected its earlier selected consultant, citing the high price quoted by it.
The Administration had selected Intercontinental Consultants And Technocrats Private Limited, which had quoted Rs 3. 98 crore and sought the approval from the ministry to allot the work.
However, the ministry rejected the selection on the ground that the amount was exorbitantly high and asked the Administration to float another tender. The project was announced by Union Minister of Transport Nitin Gadkari last year.
The expenditure on the consultant will be borne by the ministry. While the Department of Engineering failed to get any response in the first three tenders for the consultant, the last tender was cancelled. The Administration requires permission from the ministry since the flyover is to be constricted on the National Highway 21. The administration has already prepared a tentative estimate of around Rs 300 crore for the project.
