Sukhpreet Singh Jhoje overcame Arhaan Pahwa in a marathon three-setter to clinch the boys’ U-14 title on the concluding day of the STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Tournament at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here today.  

Jhoje won the opening set 7-5, but a resilient Pahwa fought his way back into the match with a 7-6(4) victory in the second set.

Jhoje, however, kept his nerve to beat his opponent 6-4 in the decider to claim the title. 

Jhoje also won the doubles title along with Pahwa. The duo registered a 6-2 6-3 win over Harmanjot and Avish in the U-16 title-clash.

The boys’ U-16 title went to Shubh Negi after he rallied from a set down to upset Jitin Chetry. 

Negi lost the first set 5-7, but came back strongly to win the net two sets 6-3 6-2 to win the final.

In the girls’ U-14 category, Riya Kaushik continued her impressive run as she mastered Jyotsana Yadav 6-4 6-1 in the final. 

Riya, though, lost the U-16 title to Priyanka Khanna.  Riya got the lead with a 6-4 win in the first set, but the youngster lost the net two sets 4-6 2-6 to finish as a runner-up. — TNS
