Students from the UICET department, pursuing integrated course, staged a protest at the administrative block while demanding the approval of their degrees, here on Sunday.

The students pursuing integrated course of chemical engineering with MBA staged the protest and demanded to stand approve their degrees, which will be awarded after four years.

At present, the course is not being approved by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). However, the Panjab University authorities inducted the students under the same course.

The students demanded that they should be given chemical engineering degrees after the completion of their course.

However, after the Syndicate meeting, the protestors were asked to wait for another week for the final decision on their degrees.

“We are asking to stand valid our chemical engineering degrees as per the AICTE rules. The AICTE rules do not approve the integrated course degrees. However, the PU authorities inducted the students under the same course. Now, either the authorities should take the approval from the AICTE or give us chemical engineering degrees. We have been asked to wait for a week before the final decision of the Syndicate,” said a protestor. — TNS
