The crime branch of the Chandigarh Police has managed to arrest Shane Alam, the third undertrial, who along with four other undertrials had fled from the washroom of the judicial lock-up on September 23. The undertrial along with his accomplice, Mohammad Sazid, was involved in theft and snatching incidents. Sazid has also been arrested by the police.
Inspector Gurmukh Singh, In charge (crime branch), stated that Alam and Sazid, both native of Bijnour district in UP, were arrested from near Ziri Mandi Chowk, Sector 39.
The accused were arrested while riding a motorcycle stolen from Sector 40.
The undertrials, Abrar Khan, Pankaj, Sahne Alam and Vicky, had escaped from the washroom of the judicial lock-up. The accused had climbed up to the first floor using a pipe of the washroom at the lock-up and entered the office of the court staff from where they had fled. Abrar Khan and Pankaj were earlier arrested by the police. Vicky is still absconding.
During the investigation, the accused said that after escaping from police custody they had committed snatchings and thefts across the tricity.
“We have been able to crack five cases with the arrest of the accused. We have recovered two motorcycles, a mobile phone and two purses”, the in charge of the crime branch added.
Shane Alam among most wanted criminals
Accused Shane Alam, alais Aslam, alias Ravi, alias Bali, figures among the list of most-wanted criminals in the record of the Chandigarh Police. Alam has around 41 criminal cases of snatching, theft, robbery and NDPS Act registered against him at different police stations of the city. Besides this, he was also involved in several criminal cases in neighbouring states.
