Governor felicitates UBSE Class X, XII exam toppers

Governor Dr KK Paul today honoured those students who topped in the Uttarakhand Board of School Education (UBSE) Class X and XII examinations in the state with Governor’s Awards. He gave away the first, second and the third prizes to students of high school and intermediate as well as those who excelled in Sanskrit studies.

The first prize is of Rs 7,000, the second of Rs 5,000 and the third of Rs 3,000.Three government schools who have performed well in the board exams were also awarded cash prizes by the Governor at a function held at the Raj Bhawan auditorium today.

The high school students who were awarded were Ayesha (first prize) of Gauri MPIC (Rudraprayag), Harshvardhan Verma (second) of RLS Chauhan SVMIC (Udham Singh Nagar) and Ajay Vikram Singh Bisht (third) of HS Badkot (Uttarkashi).

In Class XII, Shagun Shukla of SMM Giri Inter College, Dehradun, stood first and Sonali of Government Girls Inter College (Chamoli) stood first in humanities. In the science stream, Aditya Ghildiyal of SVM Inter College (Gangnali, Pauri) and Megha of Saraswati Vidya Mandir (Sector 2, BHEL), Ranipur (Haridwar), got first prize. In commerce, Tanmay Aggarwal of Pandit Poornanand Tiwari Inter College (Jaspur) and Pragya Chaurasia of SVMIC, Vikas Nagar (Dehradun) stood first.

In Uttarakhand Sanskrit Education Board exam, the first prize was bagged by Brajesh Joshi, second by Shubham Nainwal and third by Bhupesh Tiwari at the high-school level. The students who were awarded the first, second and third prizes at the intermediate level were Kewal Joshi, Ashish Kanswal and Kishan Chandra Suyal. These cash prizes were also of Rs 7,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000. 

Government Girls Inter College (Pokhri, Pauri) was given Rs 50,000 as the first prize for excellent performance in the board exams (2017), Government Inter College (Ratirketi, Bageshwar) received second prize of Rs 30,000 and Government Inter College (Adriakhal, Pauri) got Rs 20,000.

The Governor congratulated the award winners, their teachers and parents. He said these awards were initiated in the year 2015 with the objective of motivating and encouraging students and institutions to improve their academic performance with a healthy competition. He said assessment should be made by the Education Department regarding how the exam results had improved after the institution of these awards. The performance of schools as well as students should be reviewed.

The Governor, Dr KK Paul, said teachers had a significant role to play in the lives of students and could shape the future of youngsters. Addressing students, he said they should not waste their time during the vacations. He suggested to the Education Department that it should start an “Uttarakhand Genius” contest where general knowledge and other talents of students could be tested. He said students should spend their time in learning computer and language skills so that these could help them in the future. He said after Class XII students must choose the area of study according to their interest and capability.

The Chief Minister, Trivendra Singh Rawat, congratulated students, their teachers and parents and said these awards motivated and inspired the students. He announced that all the toppers would get laptops. From this year onwards, the state government had decided to give laptops to all students who would be given the Governor’s awards. He said the Governor’s initiative to honour students of Sanskrit was laudable.
