Addressing a gathering, he said in the coming years, this institution would have great significance. Devprayag would be known due to this institute.

He said the institute would become the most effective medium for Sanskrit education and propagation of Sanskrit in the state. It would help the youth gain perfection in the language and check migration from hill areas.

He said Sanskrit was the root language of Indian civilization and had been a part of it for the past 2,000 years. All our ancient literature and scriptures were written in Sanskrit.

The Governor said Sanskrit had a special place in the Indian Constitution. According to Article 345 of the Constitution, Uttarakhand had accepted Sanskrit as its second official language. “The relationship between Uttarakhand and Sanskrit is age-old and has now acquired a constitutional complexion,” he said.

The Governor told Sanskrit students that in this era of globalisation, while there had been great benefit due to global exchange of knowledge through Information Technology and TV, our basic values had become weaker. He said along with technical skills and knowledge of technology, the youth must be linked to our Indian values and principles. “Studying Sanskrit will help students to go into the depth of ancient texts and acquire knowledge of our civilisation,” he said

He said the Sanskrit institute would have to make efforts to attract the common man as well as school/college students towards Sanskrit. Sanskrit literature should be translated into other languages.
