The state government will soon bring a new transfer policy for teachers and is also looking at ways to provide 9-10 month fruitful employment for PRD jawans, Arvind Pandey, Minister for School Education, Sports and Youth Welfare, said here today.

The minister made these observations while responding to a request by a PRD jawan Rajesh Gairola for a regular employment. “I am not gainfully employed, sometimes I work for a month and then in between there are long periods of unemployment. I have a family whose needs have to be looked into,” said Gairola, while petitioning before the minister at the Janta Durbar.

Similarly, school teacher Naresh Bahuguna said that he made a request for transfer at Rudraprayag, where his wife is also a teacher, had remained unheeded, the minister admonished the officer concerned for failing to solve the problem. “Our government wants to solve the teacher-transfer problem once for all. Chief Minister TS Rawat has given his go-ahead for a new transfer policy,” he said. However, when it was pointed out that the Transfer Act for all the state government employees is already before a standing committee, what was the need to come up with another policy, the minister said, “The teachers have a specific problem pertaining to the schools location.”

Despite the political rhetoric, the minister’s on the spot resolution of the problems left Gopi Chand and 90-year-old Lati Devi satisfied.

Gopi Chand, who had been running from pillar to post for demanding compensation, went back a happy man as DM Pauri immediately agreed to look into the matter at the behest of Arvind Pandey, who telephoned DM Pauri for speedy action. Gopi Chand, a resident of Bhatoli Srikot (Pauri), did not receive compensation after a portion of his land was acquired for the Bhatoli-Srikot road construction. Similarly, Lati Devi of Dehradun was promised regular age-old pension by District Social Welfare Officer Anurag Sankhdhar.
