Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Wednesday dedicated a park in its capital Dehradun’s Cantt Board in the memory of late President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, popularly known as People’s President.

Inaugurating the “Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Park”, Rawat recalled the simplicity of the late Dr Kalam. “He was a symbol of simplicity. Coming from humble background, he achieved many milestones”, he said.

Referring to Dr Kalam’s book ‘My Journey: Transforming Dreams into Actions’, the Chief Minister said the late President referred to his association with Uttarakhand as he mentioned in his book about how his visit to Devbhumi changed his life. He was of firm opinion that there was some miraculous attraction in this divine land, which is experienced nowhere else.

The Chief Minister said Dr Kalam had a vision to make India a prosperous and developed nation. “India is moving fast in that direction and turning the dreams of Dr Kalam into a reality”, he added.

“The personality of Dr Kalam teaches us that a person becomes great not by birth but by his deeds”, the CM said, adding that serving the country, Dr Kalam played many roles that of a renowned scientist to make India a nuclear country, a teacher and then the first citizen of the country. The Chief Minister also inaugurated the Prime Minister Jan Aushadhi Centre at Cantonment Board. Generic medicines would be available at cheaper rates at such centres.
