Parmarth Niketan Ashram spiritual head Swami Chidanand Muni Maharaj today announced voluntary putting up of garbage bins at the Swarg Ashram panchayat area in Pauri Garhwal district.

Announcing this today, while initiating a cleanliness drive at the Swarg Ashram, Swami Chidanand Muni said the area is adjacent to the Ganga and is on the way to the world-famous Neel Kanth shrine. Lakhs of pilgrims and tourists arrive at this place. In order to give them a clean ambience, the ashram management has taken this step.

The funds will be provided by Ganga Action Parivar, a social wing of the Parmath Niketan Ashram, catering to cleaning of the Ganga. From today onwards, these garbage bins are being put up at various places by the Ganga Action Parivar volunteers.

Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat drive, Swami Chidanand said everyone needs to contribute to this drive. “When our PM has taken up the broom, we should follow suit as responsible citizens,” he said.

Apart from Parmarth Niketan ashram volunteers, students of Amritsar-based Meeri Peeri Academy and Parmarth Gurukul undertook the cleanliness drive in Swarg Ashram area.

A demand for ban on polythene use, particularly during festive fairs and bathes, was made. Millions arrive in the twin pilgrim cities on these occasions.

As per Parmarth Niketan spokesperson Ram Mahesh Mishra, for a clean and green annual Kanwar pilgrimage, these garbage bins will come in handy. The garbage will be collected for being sent on to garbage dumping sites, as a result of which, if things go as per plan, this garbage will not get into the Ganga.

Meeri Peeri Academy students who undertook the cleanliness drive today, belong to the US, Russia, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Peru, Chili, Bolivia, Argentian, England, Norway, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Australia, Thailand and South Africa.
