The State Project Management Group (SPMG) will construct sewage treatment plants (STPs) in towns falling within 10 km of the Ganga and work in association with the Tourism Department for developing Rishikesh as a heritage and cultural town.
The tentative annual plan for 2015-16 was approved under the Ganga Swachtha Abhiyan and proposals for the construction of sewage treatment plants in towns falling in the aerial distance of 10 km area of the Ganga and on the Char Dham route,” said Savin Bansal, additional project director, SPMG.
The proposal for 15 STPs were put up at Gangotri, Triveni Ghat, Tapovan, Ahbab Nagar, Joshimath, Gopeshwar and Sarai. However, around five proposals for STPs would be reframed. These include two STPs each at Karanprayag, Rudraprayag, Badrinath and Deoprayag.
For all these projects, 70 per cent of the funds would be provided by the Centre while the state government would provide the rest of the money. All ongoing plans under the Ganga Action Plan-I and the Ganga Action Plan-II are now under the purview of the SPMG.
