Mussoorie, May 16

It was an unpleasant start to the tourist season in Mussoorie today as a large number of tourists were caught in a traffic jam on the Mall Road. The police also failed to implement the much-hyped traffic plan in the town due to lack of adequate number of personnel.

Tourist vehicles were seen moving at a snail's pace near Rialto Cinema and the Chic-chocolate shop as their number increased during the day. Cars parked in the no parking zones on the Mall Road also added to the woes of the tourists and the pedestrians alike. The Tilak Road that was used to divert vehicles during rush hours could not be used due to the ongoing reconstruction work there.

Jaspal Singh, a tourist from Yamunanagar, said they had come to relax and enjoy a peaceful weekend in Mussoorie, but we had a horrible experience as we were caught in a traffic jam on the Mall Road for more than an hour.

Municipal Council president Manmohan Singh Mall said lack of adequate police force may be the reason for the traffic jam on the Mall Road.

He added he would talk to senior police officials in this regard and demand additional police force so that the traffic plan could be implemented properly in the town.
