New Tehri, August 14
The nine-year ordeal of Pratap Nagar residents came to an end today as work on the incomplete Dobra-Chanti Bridge over the Tehri Dam lake resumed.
Chief Executive Engineer PWD, SK Rai said the bridge would be constructed within 18 months in accordance with the technical design submitted by South Korean company Yoshin Engineering.
He said work on the link road from where construction material would be transported also began today. It would be completed in the next three days. Senior engineer from the Korean company Jackie Kim has reached Tehri to oversee the work. Senior Congress leader and vice-president of the district construction advisory committee Shanti Bhatt gave the credit to Chief Minister Harish Rawat, who he said took up the issue seriously.
On the other hand, chief coordinator of the Dobra Chanti Pul Banao Samiti Rajeshwar Painuli said the government was misleading people as the final design of the bridge was yet to be approved by the competent authority and a detailed project report was also awaited. — TNS
