Workshop on riverbank protection

An interactive workshop was jointly organised by the World Bank and DHI, India, in collaboration with the Uttarakhand Disaster Recovery Project (UDRP) under the Department of Disaster Management, Government of Uttarakhand, in Mussoorie today.
The project “River Morphological Analysis and Design of River Training and Bank Protection Works in Uttarakhand State” is being undertaken with the aim of obtaining a sound and dependable model and a supporting state-centralised river information system, which is streamlined, efficient, easily updatable and accessible. In this regard, four major rivers (Alaknanda, Bhagirathi, Mandakini and Kali) are being studied. The aim of the workshop was to share the findings related to analysis and design for River Training and Bank Protection Work in the state.
Amit Singh Negi, Secretary, Disaster Management, was the chief guest on the occasion and informed the participants about the World Bank-assisted Uttarakhand Disaster Recovery Project.
Chalisgaonkar, HoD, Irrigation Department, shared the extensive work done by the Irrigation Department post June 2013 disaster and other river protection works undertaken in states.
