The BJP today elected Rohini MLA Vijender Gupta as the leader of its Legislature Party in the Delhi Assembly.

He was elected in a meeting held at Delhi BJP office.

Announcing the decision, Delhi BJP in charge Prabhat Jha said: “The number of our MLAs is not large, but the administrative experience of Vijender Gupta will compensate for the shortcomings and all our three MLAs will raise the issues of public interest continuously in the Legislative Assembly and also before the government.”

Despite the massive mandate in the favour of AAP, Kejriwal’s style of functioning had shades of ‘anarchism’, added Jha.

Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said: “We respect the mandate of the people and will work as a healthy opposition. Our MLAs will ask the government to fulfil the promises and our party organisation will co-operate with the Legislature Party in raising every issue and if needed we will also take to streets.”

He said the BJP opposes the ban of media at the Delhi Secretariat premises by the AAP government.

“We are working in the Municipal Corporations of Delhi and the media has free entry at our offices and in the meetings,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Vijender Gupta said the BJP would fully cooperate with the government in its public welfare works.

“We also expect from the Delhi government that it will fully cooperate in implementing the Central government’s schemes like Jaha Jhuggi, Wahi Makan and Beti Bachao Andolan,” said Gupta.

He also advised the government to understand its administrative responsibilities first and then make announcements.

The announcements recently made by the government showed its lack of experience in functioning, he added.
