Vinesh settles for silver, Sakshi bronze

Top Indian woman wrestler Vinesh Phogat lost to N Malisheva of Russia in the 53kg final of the Medved event in Minsk, Belarus. 

The 24-year-old Vinesh, the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games gold medallist, suffered a 0-10 (technical superiority) defeat against her Russian opponent in the summit clash. The loss meant that Vinesh failed to win her fourth consecutive gold this year. She had bagged the top honours at Grand Prix of Spain, Yasar Dogu International and Poland Open recently.

Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik settled for bronze in the 62kg category. The Indian women wrestling team bagged four silver and three bronze medals in the tournament. In the men’s freestyle, Ravi Dahiya was the lone medallist with a bronze in the 57kg category.

Last year, Sakshi had lost to Hungary’s Marianna Sastin 2-6 to finish with silver medal.  Pooja Dhanda (57kg) had also bagged bronze last year. — TNS/Agencies
