World Environment Day celebrated

Dalhousie, June 5
World Environment Day 2016, with a new theme “Go Wild for Life”, was celebrated under the aegis of the Indian Federation of United Nations’ Association and the Himachal Pradesh United Nations’ Association (HPUNA) at Dalhousie Public School (DPS) here today.
HPUNA president Chander Parkash Mahajan delivered the welcome address. Secretary general Suresh Srivastava presided over the programme while Brig S Atre, Commander, 323 Mountain Brigade, was the chief guest.
Director Principal Dr (Capt) GS Dhillon informed the visitors that the Defence Park was being dedicated as a tribute to all mothers.
Dr Ramesh C Kang, Additional Principal Conservator of Forests, HP, was keynote speaker.
The celebrations came to an end with the giving away of mementoes and trophies to the participants and singing of the national anthem.
Rally taken out in Manali
Manali: Students of Senior Secondary School, Manali, along with its primary wing and NSS, celebrated World Environment Day by taking out an environment awareness rally on the Mall Road here on Sunday.
Students were carrying banners and playcards with slogans reading “Save the environment”, “Keep Manali pollution free” and “Save forests”. They raised slogans to create awareness among local residents and motivate them to keep Manali clean and green. Painting and slogan-writing competitions were also organised to mark the occasion.
