Vienna, September 22

A 500 kg unexploded World War II-era aerial bomb was discovered here, prompting the officials to carry out extensive evacuations.

The local media reported that the relic from the Second World War had been discovered in the city's southern Liesing district on Thursday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Bomb squad experts as well as fire brigade were called in to assess the device and any risk it may pose, as well as to see about disarming it.

Its proximity to a subway stop along the U6 line resulted in its temporary closure. Significant traffic delays resulted.
