London: One of Scotland’s leading universities is set to hand out pronoun badges to freshers joining in a new term so they know whether to refer to each other as “he”, “she” or “they”. The move by the Edinburgh University is intended to avoid any potential “misgendering” of non-binary or transgender students, who may display the physical attributes of one gender, while associating more closely with another or none at all, The Sunday Telegraph reported. The students’ union also published a guide to pronouns, which explains why it is important to “normalise” the practice of sharing gender pronouns. PTI

It assisted in the discovery of planets beyond our solar system, including the detection of seven Earth-size planets orbiting the star TRAPPIST-1. PTI

Virtual pooch could help prevent dog bites

London: Scientists have created a virtual pooch that may be used as an educational tool to help prevent dog bites. The proof of concept virtual reality experience lets people approach and interact with a dog displaying signs of aggression in a safe and controlled way. It teaches adults and children to recognise specific behaviours displayed by dogs, which could potentially lead to an attack or incident if not correctly identified. Researchers wanted to explore whether a digital tool could help people identify a range of stress and threat behaviours typically exhibited by dogs, which have the potential to lead to a bite. PTI
