Iconic ‘tunnel’ tree falls victim to storm
Los Angeles: An iconic tree, which had a tunnel carved into its broad base over 137 years ago to drive through, fell victim to a powerful winter storm rolling through the area. The giant sequoia was one of the oldest residents of the Big Trees State Park in California. Visitors could once drive through the tree, but of late it was open only to hikers. The giant sequoias are estimated to be more than 1,000 years old. PTI
Mercedes-Benz to overtake BMW
Stuttgart: Mercedes-Benz is expected to reach its goal of becoming the largest premium carmaker four years early — a feat achieved, ironically, only after it stopped chasing market share and focused on making stylish high-tech cars. Daimler said it sold 2.08 million Mercedes-Benz branded passenger cars in 2016, a lead that BMW is not expected to beat. Reuters
