 London: A top Indian-origin cancer surgeon has been sacked by the UK's government-funded National Health Service (NHS) as police investigate high patient death rates. Sudip Sarker was dismissed as a consultant colorectal surgeon, the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust announced in a statement. The 46-year-old had been suspended from practicing medicine in the UK by the General Medical Council (GMC) since June last year. PTI

Greek lawmakers split over bailout as vote looms 

ATHENS: Lawmakers from Greece's ruling Syriza party and their allies were arguing behind closed doors on Tuesday about whether to back sweeping reforms the government must ram through parliament as it races to meet the terms of an unpopular bailout deal. Man takes selfie near mishap site, arrested 

London: A 19-year-old man was taken into police custody for taking a selfie in front of a major road accident in the UK while firefighters struggled to rescue three injured persons. The man, who was seen holding his phone aloft as he posed for the picture on a bridge over the North Circular in Barnet, was taken to a north London police station where he remained in custody. PTI

Pro-govt forces retake Yemeni airport in new assault

Aden:  Pro-government fighters in south Yemen seized Aden's airport on Tuesday as they launched a new offensive against Iran-backed rebels supported by Saudi-led warplanes and ships, military sources said. The fighters from the Popular Resistance also pushed back the Shia Houthi rebels and their allies from areas within the war-torn port city, the sources said. AFP
