Tehran: An Iranian Instagram star who posted her spooky images resembling Hollywood actor Angelina Jolie has been arrested on blasphemy charges, the media reported. Sahar Tabar was detained over charges of “cultural crimes and social and moral corruption”, reports The National, quoting semi-official Tasnim news agency. She altered her face through cosmetic surgery which then resembled a spooky version of Jolie and posted on Facebook-owned Instagram. IANS
21 held in UK as part of global environment protests
London: Twenty-one people were arrested on Monday in the UK at the start of two weeks of protests by environmental campaigners, the media reported on Monday. Extinction Rebellion activists will demonstrate in cities around the world, including Berlin, New York and Sydney, reports the BBC. Activists barricaded themselves inside cars in Westminster early on Monday as the demonstrations got under way. IANS
Pak court to hear Sharif’s appeal against conviction
Islamabad: A Pakistani court will hear on Monday the appeal of jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif against his conviction in a corruption case. Sharif, 69, has been serving a seven-year prison term at the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore since December 24, 2018 when the accountability court convicted him in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case, one of the three corruption cases filed in the wake of the apex court’s July 28, 2017 order in the Panama Papers scandal.
