Most obese man starts treatment in Mexico
Mexico City: The world’s most obese man has begun medical treatment to lose weight. Juan Pedro Franco, 32, weighing 500 kg, was transported by a specially-adapted van to a private clinic. “At 15, I weighed about 200 kg and my body continued gaining weight... out of control. I come from a humble family and we didn't know how to fight against my obesity,” he said. The treatment will last about six months. IANS
Whitson, 56, set to be oldest astronaut
Washington: At the age of 56, NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson is set to be the oldest woman in space when she launches for a six-month stay aboard the International Space Station from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Friday. It will be Whitson’s third long-duration mission to the ISS. She is set to break the record of Barbara Morgan, who flew to the space station at the age of 55 in 2007. IANS
Out of prison, Gupta heads non-profit body
New York: India-born former Goldman Sachs Director Rajat Gupta has assumed a new role as chairman of a US-based non-profit organisation, a gradual return to a normal life after completing a two-year prison term on insider trading charges. Gupta, 67, is chairman of the WHEELS Global Foundation (WGF), focussed on applying technology to uplift rural communities and provide solutions to global challenges. It was founded in 2013 by a group of alumni from IIT. PTI
