LONDON: Most hosts would be quite happy to have Paul McCartney come to a shindig. But that wasn’t the case with Denis Thatcher in 1988 when planning a gala reception at 10 Downing Street. Newly released papers show that the husband of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher put a question mark next to the former Beatle’s name on a proposed guest list he was reviewing. The papers, released on Saturday, show Denis Thatcher putting check marks next to the guests he approved and question marks next to those he was less comfortable with. AP

After 15 yrs, thieves behind French heist surface in Serbia

UZICE: They believed they were safe but a few blood drops betrayed them: 15 years after a daring robbery at a French jewellery store, the four alleged perpetrators have been found, in Serbia. Between 1999 and 2015, these criminals are thought to have carried out at least 380 armed robberies, targeting high-end jewellery stores and snatching 334 million euros worth of loot, Interpol says. But the thieves themselves were never caught. Nor were they identified until 2013. All four come from Uzice, a once prosperous industrial town some 150 km southwest of Belgrade which has since fallen on hard times. AFP
