UK journalist and ex-envoy to India dies aged 99
London: Britain's prominent journalist and former high commissioner to India John Freeman has died at the age of 99. Freeman, who died here on Saturday, was perhaps best known for his interviews for BBC television series 'Face to Face'. Besides serving as an envoy to India between 1965 and 1968 under Harold Wilson's premiership, he was also a decorated soldier, editor of the 'New Statesman' magazine, Labour MP, Britain's ambassador in Washington and chairman of 'London Weekend Television'. Tunisians vote in historic presidential run-off
TUNIS: Tunisians voted on Sunday in a presidential run-off election that completes the country's transition to full democracy nearly four years after an uprising which ousted autocrat Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali. Frontrunner Beji Caid Essebsi, a former parliament speaker under Ben Ali, won 39 per cent of votes in the first round of voting in November with current president Moncef Marzouki winning 33 per cent. Maiduguri: A new video from Nigeria's home-grown Boko Haram extremists shows gunmen mowing down civilians lying face down in a dorm, and a leader saying they are being killed because they are "infidels" or non-believers. There are so many corpses the gunmen have difficulty stepping to reach bodies still twitching with life. Most appear to be adult men. AP
A bullet that changes direction in mid-air
New York: The US Department of Defense is testing a bullet that could change direction in mid-air. The Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordnance (EXACTO), currently being tested by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), is a .50 calibre round that can change direction as it flies towards its target. The details of how it will work are completely secret, Popular Science reported. IANS
