Perturbed over receiving 600 applications from students everyday for getting a caste certificates only, Additional Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan today issued orders to the educational institutes not to ask for a fresh one every year.
While informing this, Dayalan said that even though as there are guidelines that there is no
need to renew caste certificates issued to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Castes, many institutes in the region have been asking the students to furnish fresh certificates annually at the time of admissions to avail scholarship benefits.
"While we are in the process of migrating to the e-district server, we are receiving more than 600 applications every day pertaining to SC/BC certificates only and it is posing a tedious challenge at us. While the e-district module requires scanning of mandatory documents, it further complicates the process," said Dayalan.
He said, "With the opening of Seva Kendras in
the district by July this year, things will get streamlined."
Also, he issued warning to various educational institutes including prominent Universities not to print caste certificate format inside their prospectus. "They can only accept the format issued by the state government and not the one designed by them," said Dayalan.
The administration has also issued directions to the educational institutes not to keep the original caste certificates with them. The data received from the Suwidha centres revealed that the number of applicants seeking copies of their caste certificates is much higher than the fresh applicants.
