A retired Army man allegedly shot dead a woman at the Rohtak railway station yesterday. The victim has been identified as Pinki, a resident of Julana town in Jind, and the accused as  Wazir Singh of Lijwana khurd in Jind district. The police said both were known to each other. Sources said the accused had reportedly taken Rs 12 lakh from her and promised jobs for her two sons. She was demanding the money back, leading to a dispute.

Pinki was working at a private company located on the Hisar bypass in Rohtak. The accused also worked there as a security guard. Both would commute every day, and were waiting for the train to go home on Friday, when suddenly, Wazir Singh reportedly drew out his gun and shot her in the back. He then boarded the train.

RPF personnel, however, arrived at the spot and arrested him. SHO Jogender Singh said the police were interrogating the accused.
