Where tradition meets innovation

Sustainable, mixed craft, different drapes and new colours—Debiprasad Chhualsingh lists down the diktat for the weddings season 2020. The richness of Indian handicraft and handloom in a variety of textures, multitude of embroideries and riot of colours pop out as one goes through a range of Bhagalpur, Banaras, Chanderi, Kanjeevaram, Maheshwari weaves from different regions of India.

Jewel tones stand out and so do the patterns like chakra, booti, peacocks or elephants. Many of the pieces have taken as many as two months to complete.

“It’s our heritage that must be celebrated,” says Debiprasad, who is part of design team Taneira. While the collection, that is currently on at The Tango, Taj Chandigarh, has largely sarees and lehengas, there is a range of dress materials, ready-to-wear blouses, stoles and dupattas too.

Chokola, an in-house designer collection of Tussar silk sarees in rich colour palette, is inspired by the delectable world of chocolate. —TNS
