Leh Deputy Commissioner Romil Singh Donk chaired a preparatory meeting regarding the first Astro Festival of Ladakh.

The festival will be held on the University of Ladakh campus at Taru in Leh from June 27 to 28.

The festival is being organised by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Astrophysics and is considered a pioneering initiative for the region.

The festival is designed to offer a unique blend of daytime academic engagement and captivating night-time experiences. Experts in the field are going to host seminars during the day while the evenings will be dedicated to star-gazing sessions using telescopes, providing attendees with an unparalleled opportunity to explore the cosmos.

During the meeting, tourism officials requested necessary arrangements, including tents for stall markets that will be part of the festival, to ensure cleanliness at the venue by the MC, provision of water tankers by Jal Shakti Department.

The Leh DC directed the departments concerned to promptly implement their assigned tasks and provide necessary arrangements on time. He emphasised on the importance of coordinated efforts for the festival’s success. The meeting was attended by Chief Medical Officer Leh, Assistant Commissioner Development Leh, Executive Officer MC Leh and other officials.
