Avinash Mukherjee, popular for his show Balika Vadhu, talks about his journey and how being a child actor affected his future plans
How would you summarise your journey so far?
I am still learning and my journey cannot be defined; anything which cannot be defined is called magic. So, it has been a magical journey.
How has working in Balika Vadhu helped your career?
I wouldn’t have wished for a better acting school than BalikaVadhu, the experience which I have received has helped me immensely. I spent the first few years on sets researching and learning about acting in between shots. Simultaneously, I also started learning about camera anglesand lenses; about scripts, characters, music and screenplay.
Since you became famous at a young age, did you face any pressure?
There was no pressure at all because dad was always supportive about what I wanted to do creatively. My mother was very clear about things too. If you see the graph, you will see that I took a break during my 9th and 10th, then I did some work. Then I took a gap for my 2nd and 3rd year of college, and so on and so forth.
People like your deep baritone. Would you like to host a show in the future?
Maybe 10-12 years down the line, I would like to host Bigg Boss.
What is your idea of unwinding?
I don’t need to unwind but you need some ‘me’ time without phones or gadgets, so I do that every night for 20 minutes.
You are a Bengali, so any plans to take up regional projects?
Ever since I was born, I have been talking in Bangla. I am in touch with my roots. I am from UP, so I am blessed with the creativity of Bengal and also the culture of Uttar Pradesh.
