The Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Thursday carried out a process to seal properties with dues of property tax. The team members sealed six properties which have an outstanding tax amount of Rs 26, 83, 234. The action was taken under section-130 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994.

MC Commissioner Dr Vaishali Sharma said action was scheduled against 15 defaulting properties on Thursday. Of these, six properties were officially sealed, while eight property owners avoided attachment by paying their dues on the spot, handing over cheques worth Rs 47,03,077 to the municipal enforcement team.

In addition, a dairy unit near the railway line in Ram Nagar requested a day’s time to clear its outstanding property tax. Several properties were sealed recently.

Sharma emphasised the civic body’s firm stance on tax compliance, and said, “Strict action against property tax defaulters will continue. Property owners are advised to clear their dues at the earliest to avoid attachment proceedings. Timely payment of taxes is the only way to remain worry-free and prevent legal action.”

The aim behind the step was to recover long-pending dues, ensuring better infrastructure and services for the city.

She appealed to all defaulters to come forward voluntarily and clear their liabilities before facing further enforcement action.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) Abhay Singh was appointed as the Duty Magistrate, while Zonal Taxation Officer Ankush Parashar led the enforcement team. The MC had issued two notices to each defaulter. However, the property owners did not take these notices seriously, which ultimately led to the attachment action.
