Excise Dept launches extensive campaign against illicit liquor in Kapurthala

The Excise Department, Kapurthala, has initiated an intensive campaign against the sale of illicit liquor, alongside launching an awareness drive. Surinder Kumar Garg, Deputy Commissioner (Excise), Jalandhar Zone, and Navjeet Singh, Assistant Commissioner (Excise), Kapurthala range, said a large-scale effort was underway to combat the sale of illicit liquor in the district.

Today, raids were conducted at Rajeval, Amritpur and Sherpur Dogran villages in the Mand area of Sultanpur Lodhi resulting in the seizure and destruction of 8,000 litres of illicit liquor.

Navjeet Singh said a total of 10,500 litres of illicit liquor was destroyed in Mand area near the Beas River so far. Regular checkpoints were being laid and raids carried out to arrest those involved in the illegal trade, he said.

He said, “Shops of all licensed spirit sellers (L-17) and paint and hardware owners in the district have been inspected. They have been directed to maintain comprehensive records of spirit/thinner sales. These records should include the buyer’s name, address, Aadhaar card number, mobile number and quantity purchased.”

“To curb illegal liquor sales, the Excise Department is raising public awareness by using loudspeakers for announcements and distributing pamphlets in villages,” he said.

Excise Officer Sukhjeet Singh Chahal said, “Announcements have been made in various villages of Kapurthala district. The department is taking strict action against those involved in illegal liquor trade.” He urged the public to inform the police and the Excise Department about such activities.
