Irate over not getting salary for the last three months, a large number of sweepers on Friday lodged a protest, dumped garbage near the Clock Tower in Gidderbaha town.
Bobby Tank, president, Sweepers’ Union, Gidderbaha, said, “We are unable to live a normal life as the state government has not given us salary for the last three months. A number of sweepers have borrowed the money from private financiers to meet regular expenses. We have met the executive officer of the local municipal council, but to no avail. Irate over it, we have dumped garbage in the market as a mark of protest.”
He further threatened that if the government did not release their salaries, they would intensify the stir.
Jagsir Singh Dhaliwal, Executive Officer, Municipal Council, Gidderbaha, said, “As soon as we receive the money, we will release their salaries.”
