After detection of a fake driving licence, allegedly issued by the Faridkot transport office in the name of a resident of Sangrur, the district transport authorities have raised an alarm as around 200 driving licences, originally made in other states, renewed here last year.

These driving licences, initially made in other states, were renewed between January 1, 2019, and October 31, 2019, in Faridkot.

Suspecting that documents, particularly no objection certificates, provided by applicants at the time of verification of credentials for the renewal of these licences were not genuine ones, the district transport office has asked these licence holders to approach the department in the next one week for the scrutiny and reverification of their documents.

In case, the holder of these renewed licences failed to get clearance from the local transport office in the next one week, the same would be annulled, said a senior functionary in the department. The department has already issued a public notice in this regard.

Sources in the department alleged that a clerk in the office had renewed about 200 licences last year and after a licence was found to be fake in Sangrur, the authorities took action in this regard.

Suspecting that the clerk had issued several other licenses without proper verification of documents, the department has already suspended the suspect.

In a pre-emptive move, it had now started reverification of related documents of the licenses that were made in other states but renewed in Faridkot. These licences, which were renewed by the clerk, are now being scrutinised and reverified, the authorities said.
