Bathinda police have arrested one person and seized four quintals of poppy husk concealed inside cement bags. During a routine check, CIA staff stopped a truck on suspicion and searched it, recovering the consignment, which was brought from Jaipur and was to be delivered in Moga.
The truck driver was arrested on the spot. DSP Harvinder Singh Sra, who is investigating the case, said efforts are underway to trace the source of the poppy husk and its intended destination. Initial investigations revealed that a man from Jaipur had given the accused the trailer and instructed him to deliver it at a dhaba in Punjab.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sunil Singh Rawat (40), a resident of Majra Abe village in Ajmer, Rajasthan.
The DSP added that under the ongoing anti-drug campaign, continuous actions are being taken. Special checkpoints have been set up and strict measures are being implemented against drug traffickers.
