Chasing drug smuggler, CIA team vehicle rams into tree

A police vehicle rammed into a roadside tree, near Tehna village, about 5 km from district headquarters, on Saturday, while chasing a drug smuggler of Dholewala village, Moga.
On a tip off, a Faridkot CIA team led by Inspector Iqbal Singh was chasing a smuggler, Peepal Singh, of Dholewala village who was going to supply drugs to some Faridkot villages.
The police said the accused tried to block the road by throwing some of the poppy husk bags due to which their car met with an accident and rammed into a tree. The accused was able to dodge the police and an official of CIA staff sustained injuries after the vehicle rammed into the tree.
The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and an attempt to murder case against Peepal Singh and his associates. Dholewala village of Moga is infamous for high number of drug smugglers.
