Contract workers submit memo to Health Minister

Members of the Multi-purpose Health Employees’ Union staged a protest at the Civil Hospital, seeking regular jobs and salary hike. Members of the union submitted a memorandum to state Health Minister via the Civil Surgeon of Bathinda.

The members said their repeated attempts to meet the Health Minister had not succeeded. Gagandeep Singh, general secretary of the union, said: “We have been raising our demands for long, but the state government has not fulfilled these. The union members have been working on meagre salaries for years. With the ever increasing inflation, it is becoming more difficult for them to meet their ends. We are not paid for extra work or performance-based incentives. We are getting step-motherly treatment. We demand implementation of the ‘equal work, equal pay’ principle.”

“The authorities concerned have stalled the process of making our jobs regular, citing one reason or the other. We will not support new policy or scheme of the government and boycott work, if our demands are not accepted immediately,” added Singh.
