Bathinda: To improve the English language proficiency of students, SSD Girls’ College has started a course, ‘Cambridge empower’. On Wednesday, a lecture was conducted by Andrew Steele, language and IELTS expert from Cambridge University Press (CUP), the publishing house of the University of Cambridge, London. Gaurav Dua, territory manager, CUP, was also present. The main aim of the course is to give world-class education to students. It is open to girl students from the city. The course is being run under the guidance of college principal Dr Parminder Kaur Tanghi. Kaur said: “Empower is a powerful tool and all students must grab the opportunity to learn English.” College president Sanjay Goyal, vice-president Parmod Maheshwary, college secretary Chander Shekhar Mittal and the other management members offered scholarships to two students and motivated other students to work hard. The college management also appreciated the efforts of the English Department for introducing a course to make students future-ready. TNS

‘Release salary of sweepers in time’

Muktsar: Manju Diler, member of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis, on Wednesday visited Muktsar town and held a meeting with officials of various departments. She directed the executive officers (EOs) of the Municipal Councils to ensure timely health check-up of all sweepers. She also told them to make sure that sweepers get benefit of all welfare schemes. Diler directed the banking officials to give priority to their sweepers. Diler appreciated the district administration, Water Supply and Sanitation Department for purchasing a robot for cleaning manholes. After getting complaints against the delay in disbursal of salaries, she instructed officials to release these in time. “Sweepers should be given masks and gloves for their safety,” she said. Adventure camp organised

Bathinda: Students of Millennium School participated in a one-day adventure camp for the pre-primary and primary wings. Various adventurous activities, including commando net, slide bouncy, rock climbing bouncy, zorb fight, Burma bridge, bouncy jumper, trampoline, dragon move and zorb roller, among others, were organised. The camp was aimed at ensuring overall development of children. Principal Sangeeta Saxena applauded the efforts put in by teachers for organising the camp. TNS
