Bathinda, January 17
A special cultural exchange programme to apprise students of Makar Sankranti Divas was organised at Central University of Punjab. Ek Bharat Shreshtha Club of the university organised the programme where students from different states represented culture and shared celebration style to mark the festival.
Makar Sankranti marks the transition of the sun into the zodiac sign of Makara rashi Capricorn on its celestial path. The day is also believed to mark the arrival of spring in India and is a traditional festival.
KPS Mundra, registrar, CUPB, presided over the event where more than 175 students, faculty and staff members participated. He said, “We should know about India’s rich cultural diversity and CUP is committed to providing a platform to its students across the country to showcase the culture of their respective states.”
Prof Monisha Dhiman, programme coordinator, delineated participants about the cultural perspective of Makar Sankranti in Himachal. — TNS
