To issue unique ID cards to persons with disabilities, a special camp was organised at the Civil Hospital here on Thursday. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kumar Saurabh Raj reached the hospital and listened to the grievances of differently abled persons. The DC also apprised them of schemes of the Centre and the state government for their benefits.

At the camp, doctors examined them to assess their medical problems and issue unique ID cards. It is a single document for identification and verification of a differently abled person to avail benefits. The card contains all necessary details about a differently abled person and bypasses the need for carrying multiple documents.

For the purpose, the doctors identified 99 persons. While 40 cards were issued on the spot, 59 are in the process of digitalisation and identification, said Civil Surgeon Dr Rajinder Kumar.

“Next such camps will be organised in Kotkapura and Jaito on February 28 and March 6, respectively. Any person with disability can visit these camps for their unique ID cards,” he added.

“Unique ID cards are being made to create a national database for persons with disabilities. It will not only encourage transparency, efficiency and ease of delivering government benefits to them, but will also ensure uniformity,” said the DC.

He said the project would also help officials streamline the tracking of physical and financial progress of the beneficiaries at all levels of hierarchy of implementation –village level, block level, district level, state level and national level.

The unique ID card is accepted by the Centre and the state governments to help differently abled persons avail various welfare schemes. It is linked with the Aadhaar card and the data is available online to ensure transparency.
