ABOUT RBSK
- The Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) is a new initiative aiming at early identification and early intervention for children from birth to 18 years to cover defects at birth, deficiencies, diseases, development delays, including disability.
- The RBSK scheme provides free cochlear implant surgery for children (below 2 years) affected with congenital hearing impairment
Talking to Bathinda Tribune, audiologist and speech language pathologist, Tania Manchanda, said: “Earlier, we had to refer children to Faridkot for evaluation or diagnosis of hearing impairment. But with the installation of the audiometry machine at the DEIC, it will help in measuring the degree of impairment in children so that treatment can be provided accordingly.”
“The machine will be instrumental in measuring the degree of deafness in hearing-impaired children and early intervention,” said Manchanda.
Dr Amrik Singh Sandhu, Bathinda Civil Surgeon; Dr Kundal Pal, District Immunisation Officer; and Manphool Singh, district co-coordinator of the RBSK among other officials of district Health Department were present during the inauguration of the new machine.
