Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, also known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in broad daylight on May 29, 2022, in Mansa district.

Angrej Singh, who held the charge of the Mansa City 1 police station then, was among the first responders to the crime and had direct involvement in its investigation.

The former police officer had been unwell for some time and was unable to appear in the court on May 23, citing health concerns.

His testimony was considered crucial. He was expected to testify in the court on July 4, the next date of hearing in the case.

The former investigating officer was one of three key witnesses listed to appear in the recent court hearing, along with Sidhu Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh and another police official Sukhpal Singh.

Angrej Singh’s demise may further delay the proceedings in the high-profile case, which has already witnessed multiple postponements.

In earlier hearings, two eyewitnesses — Gurpreet Singh and Gurvinder Singh — had identified the shooters, weapons and the vehicles used in the murder.

The slain singer’s father Balkaur Singh is scheduled to depose before the trial court on July 4.
