Bathinda factory owners booked for selling ‘spurious’ fertilisers

The police have booked owners of a Bathinda-based firm (Destgen Life Sciences Private Ltd) for allegedly manufacturing and selling spurious fertilisers.

The Agriculture Department seized 2,400 kg of organic manure, over 700 litres of humic acid and 190 litres of seaweed during a raid at their unit. The officials also seized 330 kg zinc and 2,500 kg unauthorised fertiliser (Sampuran).

Acting on a complaint of Fertiliser Inspector Gurcharan Singh, a case has been registered under Sections 420 of the Indian Penal Code, the Fertiliser (Control) Order, 1985, and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, against the accused.

The police said the firm owners were manufacturing fertilisers by using unauthorised products.

Sukhvir Kaur, in-charge, Thermal police station, said, “A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections. We have launched a hunt to nab the accused.”
