Former BJP Muktsar president, others detained ahead of outreach camp in Malout
Three days after detaining several BJP activists for organising camps under their mega outreach programme, “BJP de Sewadar, Aa Gaye Ne Tuhade Dwar,” the police on Sunday detained the saffron party’s former Muktsar district president, Rajesh Pathela ‘Gora,’ along with several others, before they could hold a similar camp at Lakkarwala village in the Malout Assembly segment.
Gora condemned the action, terming it a “murder of democracy.”
“The camp is for the benefit of poor people, but the state government is not allowing us to hold it. These camps are being organised on the directions of our state working president, Ashwani Sharma. He wants these camps to continue. I appeal to every party worker to participate in organising such camps for the welfare of the public,” he said.
Later, the BJP workers staged a protest march in the village, raising anti-AAP slogans and condemning the state government.
Notably, on August 21, four BJP activists were detained while organising similar camps in Muktsar district. The following day, even state BJP chief Sunil Jakhar, along with others, was detained before he could attend a scheduled camp at Raipura village in Fazilka district.
