Gidderbaha poisoning: Death toll rises to 2, wife booked
A suspected case of food poisoning in Gurusar village under Gidderbaha Assembly segment has taken a grim turn, with two family members dead and the wife of one of the deceased booked for murder.
Jaswinder Kaur, mother of deceased Shivtar Singh, died late Tuesday night, raising the death toll to two. Shivtar, around 40 years old, had died on Monday night shortly after having dinner at his home.
His father, Surjit Singh, remains in critical condition, while the accused, Shivtar’s wife Khushmandeep Kaur, is under medical care but reported to be stable.
The police registered a case against Khushmandeep on Tuesday, following a complaint by Shivtar’s brother, Jagtar Singh. Family members alleged that the couple had been facing marital issues despite marrying earlier this year.
Some visitors to the house reported that leftover chapatis had a strong smell of pesticide.
Gidderbaha DSP Avtar Singh confirmed that a case has been registered and that investigations are ongoing.
