Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP and actor, failed to appear in the Bathinda court on Monday in connection with a defamation case filed by elderly farmer Mahinder Kaur. The case stems from derogatory remarks Ranaut made during the farmers’ protest, referring to Kaur as the “Shaheen Bagh grandmother” and alleging women were being paid to attend protests.

Kangana’s lawyer submitted a request for her to appear via video conferencing, which the court denied. The court had previously issued summons for Ranaut’s appearance on September 29, but she did not attend. Her lawyer’s request was made on her behalf.

Mahinder Kaur’s lawyer, Raghubir Singh Bahniwal, stated that summons had been issued to Kangana earlier, but they were not accepted. Subsequent summons was issued through the SSP, and the court directed Kangana to appear soon. Due to her absence, the matter has been postponed to October 27.

Ranaut had previously petitioned the Punjab and Haryana High Court to dismiss the case, but her plea was rejected. She then appealed to the Supreme Court, which also dismissed her petition. Now, Kangana Ranaut will have to appear in court on October 27.
