Bathinda: The NSS and RRC units of SSD Women’s Institute of Technology organised a guest lecture on the “Rule of Law and Criminal Justice” here on Saturday. Dr Tarun Arora, professor of law, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, was the resource person at the event. Considering public safety and security, he laid emphasis on various government policies related to crime prevention and treatment of offenders. Initially, he shared information about crime and its types. He said, “Factors such as major population movement, environmental disasters and economic recessions at the global level, high unemployment and lack of education as well as health-related facilities at the local level and poor relationship and violence in families at the individual level are major reasons that increase the risk of crime and victimisation.” Dr Arora added, “Collective efforts of the government and society must go hand-in-hand to reduce crime. Therefore, this special lecture was organised under the guidance of the college management.” TNS
