Bathinda, December 12
As predicted by the Met Department, the city on Thursday received mild showers throughout the day which brought down the temperature. Residents also witnessed a chill in the air.
The rain started early in the morning and people woke up to a cold weather. The sky remained cloudy and it drizzled throughout the day in intervals.
As per the Weather Department of the PAU Regional Centre, the maximum temperature reported was 14.5°C and the minimum temperature was 11.2°C. The city also witnesses 4.8-mm rain on Thursday.
The MeT department had already predicted rain in city for two days, on December 12 and 13. It had also issued advisory to farmers to not irrigate the standing rabi crop. Doctors, meanwhile, claim that they were noticing 20 to 25 per cent increase in the number of patients suffering from seasonal ailments.
“Fluctuation in temperature leads to diseases such as pneumonia, ailments related to upper respiratory tract, heart, throat infections and viral fevers. Also, there is a high degree of pollution,” a doctor said. ‘Changing temperature brings various diseases with it, so people have to be very careful with their dress. They should wear proper woollens to save themselves from the chilling effect,’ the doctor added.
